6 Indian origin cricketers who represented West Indies team

The West Indies team was the first to win the ICC 50-over World Cup that happened in 1975. In fact, the West Indies team also won the second edition of the World Cup. Over the years, some of the greatest players of the game have played for the Caribbean outfit.

Currently, the West Indies team has been dominating the shortest format of the game. The Men in Maroon are the only ones to have won the ICC T20 World Cup title twice. They won it first in 2012 and then in 2016. Their dominance in other formats is no longer the same. However, they have the capability to defeat any team on their day.

Indian origin cricketers have played internationally for almost all teams and that includes the West Indies as well. In this article, we will look at the six Indian origin cricketers who represented the Caribbean side.

1. Ramnaresh Sarwan

Ramnaresh Sarwan is a cricketer of the Indo-Guyanese origin. He played 87 Test matches, 181 ODIs and 18 T20I games for the West Indies.

Sarwan even played for the Punjab Kings outfit in the Indian Premier League. He featured in four IPL matches, scoring 73 runs at a strike rate of 97.33.

2. One of the best cricketers to have played for the West Indies team – Shivnarine Chanderpaul

Shivnarine Chanderpaul became famous for his unique stance. Although his stance was different, Chanderpaul achieved much success in cricket.

He played 164 Test matches, 268 ODIs and 22 T20Is for the Men in Maroon. Now, his son Tagenarine Chanderpaul is getting ready to play international cricket.

3. Adrian Barath

Adrian Barath is another Indian origin cricketer who played for the West Indies as well as the Punjab Kings. Barath made his Test debut in 2009.

He is a right-handed batsman who generally opens the innings for his team. Barath scored 42 runs in his three IPL appearances for Punjab.

4. One of the top wicket-keepers to have played for the West Indies team – Denesh Ramdin

Denesh Ramdin has played international cricket in all formats for the West Indies. He was once their top wicket-keeping option in all forms.

Ramdin has played 74 Test matches, 139 ODIs and 71 T20 internationals so far in his career. He has never played in the Indian Premier League.

5. Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine is currently one of the top T20 all-rounders in the world. Narine started as a mystery spinner but is an all-rounder now.

He is one of the highest-paid cricketers in the Indian Premier League. Narine does not play international cricket for the West Indies as of now.

6. Ravi Rampaul

Ravi Rampaul is an Indian origin fast bowler who played for the West Indies team. Rampaul is a right-arm pace bowler and he played in 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Rampaul has been a member of the RCB squad in the IPL. He has played 18 Tests, 92 ODIs and 23 T20I matches for the West Indies so far in his international career.
