Just before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, the Lucknow based Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a major setback early on before even their first IPL campaign had begun as England’s pace bowler Mark Wood has ruled out of IPL due to injury.

Mark Wood, who was bought for 7.5 crore in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, suffered a blow on his right elbow during the first Test match in the series against West Indies. Wood was set to be a crucial member of the Lucknow side’s bowling attack, which includes the likes of Avesh Khan, Ankit Rajput, Dushmanta Chameera, Jason Holder.

Now that the Englishman won’t be a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Lucknow Super Giants have a tough task in hand to find a replacement. Here we have listed 5 players that the Lucknow franchise could try contacting.

Andrew Tye

Australian veteran right-arm pacer Andrew Tye could the first option that the Lucknow franchise may want to look at. The 35-years-old is an experienced campaigner in the IPL, having played 27 matches and has taken 40 wickets. He has also played 32 T20I matches for Australia and has taken 47 wickets.

Kane Richardson

Another Aussie in this list is 31-years-old Kane Richardson. The right-arm medium pacer is a very handy bowler for any team and has good experience as well. He has played 15 IPL matches and has taken 19 wickets in his career.

Sheldon Cottrell

Sheldon Cottrell was a very well known and wanted name in the market during the years 2018 and 2019. The left-arm West Indies pacer probably West Indies’number one bowler. He was the West Indies’ leading wicket-taker in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and thereafter earned a contract with Punjab Kings for IPL 2022. However, he didn’t had a great one, as he played only 6 matches and took only 6 wickets.

Saqib Mahmood

England International Saqib Mahmood is another bowler that Lucknow Super Giants may have a look at. He has not played in the IPL before, but certainly has the qualities to swing the ball. He has played 7 ODI matches and has taken 14 wickets for England and 7 wickets from 12 T20I matches.

Billy Stanlake

Australia is known as the top house for fast bowling production, and thus, the 3rd Aussie in this list is Billy Stanlake. The 27-years-old not has many experience of playing for Australia, but certain has and haa wickets to his name. He has also played in the IPL in 6 matches and has taken 7 wickets in small little IPL stint.
