The 15th edition of the IPL is underway and all the teams have played at least one match each. But this season, with the addition of two more teams, has made the tournament more competitive. But still, it is early days in the tournament and no one can predict who will lift the trophy. However, everyone has their own favorite team in the tournament. And just like that, Pakistan’s former pacer Shoaib Akhtar also names the IPL team he follows.
Akhtar, who is very active on social media and is a great influencer in the game, is followed world-wide, especially in India. During an appearance on Match ki Baat with Sportskeeda, the former sprinter reveals that Pakistan also has a team that represents Punjab. That is the Lahore Qalandars that won the recently concluded PSL 2022 under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi. Adding to that, he said that he would like Punjab Kings to win the IPL as well this season.
He said that the Punjab Kings is his favorite team in the Indian Premier League. He also pointed out that the PSL also has a team that represents the Punjab region: the Lahore Qalandars. He also added that earlier in the recent season, Lahore hadn’t won the PSL, but they did this year. Shoaib Akhtar also added that he is hoping for the same performance from the Punjab Kings as well. He said, “So I hope that like Punjab from our side, even the Punjab from your side should do something.”
Punjab Kings announced their arrival in the 15th edition with a thrashing win over RCB
Punjab won their first match against the RCB by six wickets. And they are looking very strong at the moment. The batting of this team is very strong as they have more than 4-5 powerhitters in their ranks. The only issue they had in the last match was the inexperienced bowling line-up.
But now Kagiso Rabada is back with the squad, so it will surely be a confidence booster for the team. However, PBKS has had a very bad history in the IPL. They have only qualified for the playoffs once in the 2014 season, but this season is looking like they have got the team to win.
