Umpire gives ‘Out’ and later changes to ‘Not Out’

In the Big Bash League game between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars, there was an interesting moment in the 14th over of the first inning. Xavier Crone was the bowler and Ashton Turner was the batsman. The delivery by Crone seemed to touch Turner’s gloves and then fall into the gloves of the keeper. Umpire Bruce Oxenford also thought the same. Hence, he first gave his decision as “Out”. Almost immediately, based on suggestions that were given to him, he changed the decision to “Not Out”. This was because the ball had actually hit the helmet and not the gloves. Perth Scorchers later won the game by 50 runs after making 180 on the board. Here is the video of the incident:

There is a call for umpiring standards to be refined

Across all forms and levels of the game, there is a call for the standards of umpiring to be refined. Umpiring is a difficult job but although there is DRS and technology at disposal, errors are still being made. With the margin of victories dropping, each run is important. Hence, it must be made sure that umpiring standards are always held high.
