“I spoke to MS Dhoni” – Jasprit Bumrah reveals how he is inspired by Dhoni before his captaincy debut

When India play against England at Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah, a phenomenal pacer from India, will wear the captain’s hat in place of Rohit Sharma, who has been ruled out after testing positive for COVID-19. After the legendary Kapil Dev, Bumrah will become the first pacer to captain the Indian cricket team in the longest format in 35 years.

Bumrah addressed the press conference on Thursday before the postponed Test match at Edgbaston and he spoke about his feelings about getting the chance to be the captain of the team. He said it’s a big honor and big achievement in his career to lead the country. He also said that he was very happy to take this role as a captain for team India. He also added that he was focused on contributing to the team and doing the basics correctly.

He also said he had a conversation with the legendary skipper MS Dhoni, and he said Dhoni was also a straight away captain of India and he never captained before. But he was one of the most successful captains in the history of the game.

He said, “I spoke to MS (Dhoni) – he was straight away captain of India, had never captained anyone else, and was one of the most successful ever”. MS Dhoni is the only captain in the history of the game to win all the 3 ICC trophies. MS Dhoni lastly won the IPL title with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021.

Meanwhile it will be a massive gain for England because of India losing Rohit Sharma not only as a captain but also as a top order batsman. Hanuma Vihari may get to open the innings with Shubman Gill. England thrash New Zealand 3-0 to comfortably start the new era under the leadership of Ben Stokes. After losing Rohit Sharma, Indian fans are hoping for a batting masterclass from former Indian captain Virat Kohli and experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. Rishabh Pant will also play a key role for India in this match.
