“It is pretty special” – Devon Conway on being compared with former CSK star batter Michael Hussey

"To Be Compared To Hussey Is Pretty Special" - Devon Conway on his comparison with Mike Hussey after his IPL performance

The return of Devon Conway has come as a revolution for the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, at the top of the order. The left-handed opening batsman has shown incredible form in the matches he has played. He has now scored three consecutive half-centuries in the last three games. That is one of the reasons that CSK has won two of their last three matches.

He has three scores of 87, 56, and 85 in his last three innings. Conway also won the “Man of the Match” for his performance against DC. He took on the DC bowlers, especially Kuldeep Yadav, and hit them to all parts of the ground. He scored 87 off just 49 balls, including seven boundaries and five maximums, to help his team post a big score of 208/6. The left-hander hit Kuldeep for three maximums and four boundaries in his innings that had three successive boundaries in the 10th over of the innings.

However, after the departure of Du Plessis, CSK struggled to find an ideal replacement for him. That is the reason for their poor performance in the first phase of the competition. But since Conway got the opportunity at the top of the order, the southpaw has never looked back. In just four matches, he has scored 231 runs at an incredible average and strike rate of 77 and 155.03 respectively.

Many ex-cricketers and cricket pundits have found him playing the way Michael Hussey did. The CSK batting coach, who is also known as “Mr. IPL,” represented the Yellow Army from the 2008 to 2015 seasons. He used to open the batting for the team after Mathew Hayden retired. In 58 IPL innings played for CSK, Hussey scored 1977 runs at an average of 38.76. He has also hit one hundred and 15 half-centuries.

Conway stated in the post-match press conference following the match against DC that being compared to the legend Mike Hussey is a huge compliment. He said that it is very special to possibly be in that league. The left-hander also added that it is very important for him to talk to and learn from Hussey. Conway concluded, “He has got so much knowledge, so much experience, not only in the IPL but throughout the world.”

CSK will now meet the arch-rival Mumbai Indians in their next match on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium.
