It started with Sanju Samson winning the toss and electing to bat first. They had a decent opening stand of 72 runs in 7.1 overs. Jos Buttler made 18 off 19, while Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his excellent form and went on to score his maiden century in his IPL career.

He made 124 off 62 balls, with 16 fours and 8 sixes, and played shots all around the ground. It was his inning that helped Rajasthan go past the 200-run mark. RR ended up with 212/7 in the first inning. It was the third time in a row that MI conceded 200 or more in its last three matches.

It was a huge target to chase, and MI needed a good partnership. However, it didn’t happen, as MI lost skipper Rohit Sharma on the last ball of the second over. Sandeep Sharma dismissed him. Though his dismissal led to controversy as the video of his dismissal came out.

The video showed that Samson dislodged the bails from his gloves in order to catch the ball. Everyone thought that it was the ball that hit the stumps, and the nails came out. Notably, the MI skipper is going through a rough patch in the ongoing tournament. He has registered scores of 1, 21, 65, 20, 28, 44, and 2 in the IPL 2023.

Earlier in the inning, Jaiswal took the MI bowling apart and played some excellent shots. Apart from Jaiswal’s 124, the second highest score for RR came in extras. MI gave away 25 runs in extras, which could prove to be the difference between winning or losing in the end.
