He scored 84 runs in just 45 balls against Sri Lanka in the first match of the Super 4 round. Thanks to this innings, he also holds the record for the highest individual score in the T20 edition of the Asia Cup, previously held by Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Gurbaz is also a part of IPL but he did not get a chance to play this season. He was part of Gujarat Titans and his team won the IPL trophy in the very first attempt, defeating Rajasthan Royals in the final.

Speaking at the Run Ki Strategy show on CricTracker, Jaffer mentioned one possible reason why Gurbaz had to sit out the entire IPL season. He also said that Gujarat Titans will retain him before the next season.

He said that he has been saying that Gurbaz is a great talented player and that he should have got chances to play in the IPL 2022. He said that Gurbaz didn’t get chance to play as Gujarat had Matthew Wade and Wriddhiman Saha in the team.

“He didn’t get a chance to play this season as Gujarat Titans had Matthew Wade and then Wriddhiman Saha for some time,” Jaffer said.

He added that Gujarat Titans were in great form this season and when the teams wins so many matches in a row, there is no chance of changes in the winning combination, which is why Gurbaz also found it difficult to make it to the Playing XI.

He added that Gujarat Titans for sure will retain him for IPL 2023, “He is an exciting player and I am sure Gujarat Titans will retain him for the next edition of IPL, and he may be given a chance to play and be a part of the combination.”

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who has given Afghanistan a quick start, has shown excellent form in the current tournament and is at the top of the list of highest run-scorers. He has scored 135 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 166.67 and an average of 45.
