Virat Kohli steps down as T20I skipper

Virat Kohli has been one of the best captains for India across formats. In 45 T20I games so far, Virat has led India to 29 victories. However, after the upcoming T20 World Cup, India will no longer have Virat as the captain.

Earlier today, the superstar batsman, through a post on his social media accounts, announced that he would be giving up his T20I captaincy. Virat stated that he took the decision in order to manage his workload. He even mentioned that talks regarding the same were going for the last few months. Rohit Sharma will take over Virat as the next captain of the Indian T20I team.

Michael Vaughan reacts

Michael Vaughan, who usually jumps at the sight of any development in Indian cricket, gave out his verdict on Virat’s decision. He said that it was “unselfish” of the highest run-getter in T20Is so far to step down from the role. The former England captain also said that this decision would hopefully allow Virat to relax a little away from all the pressures.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and the other members of Team India are currently in UAE. They will be taking part in the second phase of IPL 2021. The team will then rejoin to participate in the T20 World Cup. UAE and Oman will host the ICC event, which is happening after a gap of five years. A win there would be a fitting end to Virat’s captaincy regime in T20Is.
