Star Pakistan Batsman Shan Masood set to Captain Derbyshire against India

Shan Masood, the elegant opening batter for Pakistan, will lead Derbyshire, an English county team, against the Indian national team in a warm-up game. India will use the practice game as part of their upcoming limited-overs series against England, which is set to begin on July 1.

Shah Masood, the left-handed opener for Pakistan, made history this season when he became the first player in the English County Championship to surpass 1,000 first-class runs. He reached the milestone while playing for Derbyshire County Cricket Club and scoring 46 runs against Sussex.

Shan has played in eight games of the County Championship this year and scored 1037 runs. Ben Duckett of Nottinghamshire, who is ranked second on the list of scorers with 764 runs, is much behind him.

Masood made history earlier in the year when he became the first opening batsman from Pakistan to record a double hundred in the English County Championship. Shan Masood is in remarkable form for the T20 format and is currently leading Derbyshire in the T20 Blast. With five half-centuries under his belt, he is now ranked second among T20 Blast players in terms of runs scored.

The warm-up game will take place the same day that India and England will play their newly scheduled Test match at Edgbaston from July 1 to July 5. The match was originally scheduled to be the fifth in a five-match Test series between the two nations last year, but the COVID-19 epidemic forced the postponement of the fifth and final match. India are already leading the series 2-1 going into the final match of this series.

The Indian team will be playing against England on July 1st, so players who are playing now in Ireland will get to play this warm up game against Shan Masood led Derbyshire. Since many first choice Indian team players will be missing this match, it will be a fascinating match to watch for neutral fans.
