Shahid Afridi

Danish Kaneria is a former leg spinner from Pakistan. He has played 61 test and 18 ODIs for Pakistan. He has picked more than 250 wickets across all formats of the game. He was banned by the ECB in 2012 over spot-fixing charges in the English County Championship pro-league matches in 2009.

Kaneria had earlier claimed that Afridi did not want him to be a part of the Pakistan team and that he “provoked” other members of the national team against him out of “jealousy”. Kaneria also told that he was performing well and Afridi was jealous of him. Kaneria further added he was branded as a “liar”, “manipulator”, “characterless person” by Afridi during his playing days.

Now Shahid Afridi has hit back at his former team-mate Danish Kaneria after Kaneria levelled some serious allegations against him. He said at that time, he was himself only understanding what religion meant and he also added that Kaneria was like a younger brother to him.

Afridi even questioned Kaneria’s intentions, claiming that the accusations are only “to get cheap fame and make money”.

Afridi also questioned that why did it take so long for Kaneria to admit this if at all this happened. He also asked why he did not complain to the Pakistan Cricket Board or the department they were playing for. Afridi said that, “He is giving interviews to our enemy country which can incite religious sentiments.”
