“He was the biggest surprise” – Sanjay Manjrekar credits David Miller for solid comeback into form in IPL 2022

Former Indian cricketer and now a cricket expert and commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar has called David Miller the biggest surprise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season.

Manjrekar said that David Miller played a pivotal role in the team’s dream run to win the Trophy in their first season itself. The former Indian cricketer pointed out that Miller had been struggling to contribute as he use to in recent year.

While talking to ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar said that David Miller is the biggest surprise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. He added that, apart from his first couple of seasons, he had failed to deliver for his team, but has suddenly stepped-up his game while playing for a new team.

“David Miller was the biggest surprise. Apart from his first couple of years, all the other seasons had proved to be a failure for him. He suddenly stepped up while playing for a new franchise this year. It was his best IPL season,” said the former Indian cricketer.

As for David Miller’s performance in the IPL 2022 season, the South African played beautifully, coming in clutches when his team needed him the most. The southpaw scored 481 runs from 18 matches at a brilliant strike rate of 142 and an average of 68.71.

As compare to his previous couple of seasons in the IPL, David Miller could only score 124 runs in IPL 2021, 213 runs in the IPL 2019 and 74 and 83 runs in the he IPL 2018 and 2017 respectively.

Numbers-wise, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season is the best ever season for the South African hit-machine. While he scored 481 runs this season, he scored 446 runs in IPL 2014 and 418 runs in the IPL 2013 edition. He has featured for Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans during his IPL career so far.
