According to Mohammad Kaif, the former Indian cricketer, MS Dhoni is not only playing as a player for the Chennai Super Kings but also acting as a mentor for other players. He has led the team well, and players such as Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, and Shivam Dube have played exceptionally well under his guidance.
As a result, the Chennai Super Kings are presently ranked third on the IPL Points Table.
Kaif praised Dhoni’s leadership style, stating that he selects the team, supports his players, and teaches young cricketers how to perform well in order to accomplish their goals.
Dhoni’s focus is on ensuring that each player, regardless of their experience level, performs to the best of their ability, which ultimately benefits the team. Kaif mentioned during his appearance on Star Sports’ Cricket Live that Dhoni does not criticize senior players but instead continually guides the younger players.
“MS Dhoni is no longer playing as a player but as a mentor. He chooses the team. Let’s get on the field. He does not tease the seniors much but keeps on teaching the youth all the time. He wants every player, playing under him, to perform well as it will make the team’s job easier,” said the former India cricketer.
There have been rumours circulating about MS Dhoni retiring from professional cricket after the IPL 2023 season. However, during the toss against Lucknow Super Giants, Dhoni hinted that he may continue to play in the IPL 2024 season.
When commentator Danny Morrison asked about his future plans, the World Cup-winning captain responded with a smile, saying that he has not made any comments regarding his future plans.
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh commented on the incident, stating that nobody knows when Dhoni will retire from cricket. He also mentioned that if Dhoni continues to play for the Chennai Super Kings beyond the 2023 IPL season, the fans would be thrilled.
