Virat Kohli has stunned everyone by announcing that he would not be continuing as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman made it clear to the team management, owners and fans that the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League will be his last one as the leader of the Bangalore-based franchise. Now, Mike Hesson, the coach of the franchise, has sent a message to Virat.

Many fans would remember that former New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori was the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League. He could not play the match against the Rajasthan Royals in that season, and that was the game where Virat Kohli captained the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for the first time ever.

The Bangalore-based franchise assigned the reins of the team permanently to him during the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League. Since then, he has always been the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain whenever he has been a part of the playing XI. Under his captaincy, the Bangalore-based franchise qualified for the IPL 2016 Final, a season where Kohli amassed over 900 runs.
