As per reports, KKR is reportedly interested in a top Indian cricketer to become the captain of the franchise from IPL 2022. The franchise has had captaincy issues in the last few seasons. Kolkata Knight Riders had signed Dinesh Karthik as the captain in IPL 2018 Mega Auction. He was not the first-choice option then. A few seasons later, Eoin Morgan replaced DK. Although Morgan produced results, he was underwhelming with his primary role. Being an overseas cricketer, he became a liability. For a team that had one of the best IPL captains in the form of Gautam Gambhir in the past, it was a difficult position to be in.
However, they appeared to have made up their mind to address this issue in future seasons. As per reports, KKR is interested in Shreyas Iyer to captain the franchise. Iyer is currently not under contract with any IPL franchise after leaving Delhi Capitals.

In the latest set of reports and rumours, Hardik Pandya is set to become the captain of the Ahmedabad franchise. KL Rahul has been Lucknow’s choice in the leadership department. Shreyas Iyer had actually left Delhi in search of a captaincy assignment. With both new teams not offering it, he might enter the auctions.
Many teams such as KKR, RCB and even Punjab could be looking for captaincy options. Of course, Shreyas Iyer is a top batter and this will also be on the minds of teams. He is relatively young and will be a solid investment for the future. Hence, there is set to be a mad rush for him if he enters the auctions.
