“Even Virat Kohli gets questioned” – India outcast speaks on his mediocre International career and a possible comeback

Varun Chakaravarthy Virat Kohli opens up on his criticism

T20 World Cup 2022 is just around the corner which to start from 16th October. All the teams have announced their squad. The Indian team will be led by Rohit Sharma while his opening partner KL Rahul will be his deputy.

The team will look to forget the last World Cup edition in 2021 and perform well this term and would like to clinch the trophy this time around.

In the T20 World Cup 2021, Indian team included the spin duo of Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakaravarthy, however, they were both a flop in the tournament and has played negligible matches for the Indian team since then.

Talking about Varun Chakaravarthy, he had tremendous season for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2021, due to which he was included for the tournament as the T20 World Cup 2021 was also played in UAE where Varun had excelled.

KKR retained him for Rs 8 crore for the IPL 2022 edition. However, the season did not go so well for the Indian mystery spinner as he took just six wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 8.51. Not only this, the franchise also dropped him from the playing XI in some matches.

Varun Chakaravarthy had to bear a lot of criticism due to his poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2021. However, he has finally spoken about it. Giving the example of Virat Kohli, he said that when the form falls against you, then even the big players have to listen a lot.

Let us tell you, Virat Kohli scored his last international century in 2019, after which a lot of questions were being raised about his form. However, in the Super-4 round of the Asia Cup 2021, he finally scored his 71st century of his international career against Afghanistan.

Varun Chakaravarthy told Sportskeeda in an interview, “It’s okay. Everyone gets questioned. Even Virat Kohli gets questioned. If someone has not performed up to expectations, they will come under the scanner and that’s the nature of the sport. I can’t question that.”

Varun also touched upon his former teammate for both the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Tamil Nadu team, Dinesh Karthik, who made a tremendous comeback to the Indian team at a later stage of his career and believes that if he can get everything right, he can get the doors to the Indian team open to himself again.
