CSK owned Johannesburg franchise to field yellow jersey in CSA T20 League; CSK coach likely to be head coach

A new T20 league will be organised in South Africa from the year 2023, which can be played in the months of January and February. The franchises playing in this league have all been bought by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, with Chennai Super Kings owners bagging the Johannesburg’s franchise.

With that, now there are reports that Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming might be given the responsibility as the head coach of the new franchise.

Apart from CSK, Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in IPL history, has also confirmed that they have bought a franchise in this new T20 league in South Africa. Mumbai Indians have acquired the franchise based in Cape Town for the league. Other than, 4 other IPL franchises have bagged the remaining 4 franchise from this league.

This will be the first time that the 2nd most successful team in the history of the IPL that they will be expanding out of IPL. And in all those circumstances, CSK’s Stephen Fleming is likely to take the mantle of the team.

In a report, a source said in a statement, “We are currently considering several different names for our team, which include Johannesburg Super Kings apart from Joji Super Kings. But it can be known as Joburg Super Kings as well, nothing confirmed.”

Apart from this, the source further said in his statement that the new Johannesburg based franchise will also be playing yellow jersey, just like the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL. He also confirmed that the CSK coaching staff will be in command of the team as well.

At the same time, a decision can be taken to include Albie Morkel, former all-rounder of the South African team, who was part of Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2013 season. Meanwhile, apart from Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, the other IPL teams who have bought franchise in South African T20 league are Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals.
