CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirms CSK will field team in Women’s IPL

Indian Premier League (IPL)’s one of the most successful franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is said to be contemplating on the idea of fielding a team in the in consideration Women’s IPL. Team’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that they are waiting for the confirmation from the BCCI.

While Indian cricket team is a dominant force in the men’s cricket category, they are somewhat away from the top teams like Australia and England. Thus, it has been the demand of many experts and legend and even the player that the BCCI introduce the Women’s IPL soon.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched the IPL in the year 2008, which turned out to be a turning point for India, giving them some solid players, who are donning the Indian jersey and creating legacy.

While Indian women’s team have some good players, they still are some off the top teams like Australia and England in particular, who invests a lot more in Womens cricket. While Australia have their own Women’s Big Bash League, England have just recently introduced the Women’s Hundred competition.

With BCCI being one of the biggest cricket board in the world of the game, the fans, experts, legends and even cricket players from India and outside have urged India to host the Women’s IPL.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has also admitted that the Women’s IPL is in the pipeline and most likely be played from 2023.

While talking to The Hindu, CSK team CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that they are waiting for the confirmation from BCCI, “Once the BCCI decides to have a women’s IPL, we will be interested,” said Mr Vishwanathan.

Talking of CSK, they had a very underwhelming season in the IPL 2022, finishing 2nd last in the points table. Out of 14 matches, they lost 10 matches and won only 4.
