“Leave IPL for a week and support in protest” – Arjuna Ranatunga urges Sri Lankan players in IPL to join Protest against Economic crisis

With all the issues that are going on in Sri Lanka, former Sri Lankan cricketer and a minister Arjuna Ranatunga has urged all the players who are participating in the IPL 2022 to leave the competition for a week and join the protest.

Sri Lanka is currently going through a very bad phase of financial crisis. The whole Sri Lanka is currently batting against the Sri Lankan government as raise in price for fuel, food has made life difficult for the neighbour’s of India.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has effected the entire world very heavily in terms of all aspects, including the financial aspect, and Sri Lanka’s financial position has been in free-fall due to the pandemic.

In all that circumstances, former Sri Lankan cricketer and minister Arjuna Ranatunga has urged all of the Sri Lankan players playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to leave their job for a week and come and support the country in the protest.

He said in a statement to ANI that there are some players who are playing in the IPL 2022, but haven’t spoken a single word in the issue. He however added that the players basically works for cricket board, which is under control by the government.

“I am sure you all know who are the players, playing in the IPL. I don’t want to mention but I would want them to leave their job for a week and come in support of the protests,” said Arjuna Ranatunga.

It must be noted that, players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who are part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, had opened up and came in support of the protest.

Other than the above two mentioned players, the other Sri Lankan players who are also playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 are, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theeksana.
