All ten franchises have until November 15 to retain the players they want for the IPL 2023 ahead of player auction. In this sequence, all the franchises are engaged in a lot of deliberation as to which players should be retained and which are released.
Meanwhile, big news is coming out regarding the players released by Delhi Capitals (DC). According to PTI, Delhi’s team is ready to release five players including star India all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Apart from Shardul, big names include KS Bharat and New Zealand’s Tim Seifert.
Apart from these three players, the team is also likely to release Punjab batsman Mandeep Singh and Andhra Pradesh batsman Ashwin Hebbar. Mandeep got to play three matches in the last season, while Ashwin was not given a single opportunity.
Delhi had bought Shardul Thakur by paying a huge amount of 10.75 crores in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. In IPL 2022, Shardul took 15 wickets in 14 matches with the ball but he also proved to be very expensive.
At the same time, he scored only 120 runs in 10 innings with the bat. A few days back there were reports that Delhi Capitals is looking to trade Shardul Thakur. However, the trade issue did not materialize due to the cost of the player and now the franchise has made up its mind to release him.
A few days back there were reports that Chennai Super Kings is considering to trade Ravindra Jadeja with Delhi Capitals and they want Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel in return. However, now these reports do not seem to be true and Jadeja is likely to stay with the Chennai based franchise. However, MS Dhoni will continue to lead the team as of now.
