Former Indian player Aakash Chopra said that Ajinkya Rahane should have thought about keeping himself out of the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Chopra said that Rahane should have participated in the ongoing County Championship in England instead of playing in the IPL 2022. Aakash Chopra said in a latest video uploaded on his YouTube channel said that Rahane cannot make a comeback in the Test team after performing well in IPL 2022.
“I don’t think Ajinkya Rahane should have played in the IPL this year. He could have rather gone to England to practice,” said the now commentator.
The cricketer-turned-commentator said that Rahane may not feature in the squad for India’s upcoming Test against England, which is to played in July as part last year’s 5 match series which was halted mid-way.
Chopra said that Rahane was picked at his base price, so he wouldn’t have suffered much financially if he had stayed out. He added that he can play only one format for India right now and that is Test cricket and now it is likely that he won’t be picked for England series.
“He was picked at his base price, so there wouldn’t have been much of a monetary loss as well if he had opted out,” added the former KKR player.
Significantly, Ajinkya Rahane has flopped badly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He was bought by KKR for a base price of Rs 1 crore. This season, he has played seven matches for the team and scored only 133 runs. He suffered a hamstring injury in the match against Hyderabad and was then ruled out of the tournament.
During this, Chopra also gave a statement about Cheteshwar Pujara. Chopra said the work that Pujara has done for the Sussex in the English County Championship, cannot be ignored, and will definitely be considered for the Test match in England. Significantly, Pujara scored four consecutive centuries in four matches while playing for Sussex. As part of this, Pujara also scored 2 double centuries.
