IPL franchise Punjab Kings is all set to appoint Trevor Bayliss as the head coach of the team for the IPL 2023. If reports are to be believed, the owners of Punjab Kings were not satisfied with Kumble’s coaching methods as the franchise managed to win just 19 matches in the last three seasons and have lost 23. Furthermore, Punjab has not qualified for the IPL playoffs since the 2014 edition.

Significantly, the board of Punjab co-owners Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul as well as Kings CEO Satish Menon have taken a decision on Kumble and they clearly want to bring Bayliss into the setup. A source has recently said about Bayliss that the management is quite confident about his inclusion in the team and the paperwork is expected to be completed soon.

A source quoted by ESPNCricinfo said, “The team has decided to go ahead with Trevor who is one of the best in coaching and has a good record. The management is hopeful that the team will continue to win the title under his guidance. The paperwork is expected to be completed soon.”

Bayliss worked for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 and the franchise finished third in the 2020 edition. Talking about the major achievements of the former Australian cricketer, he was associated with Kolkata Knight Riders from 2012 to 2015, where KKR won two titles in 2012 and 2014 under Bayliss’s coaching stint.

The 59-year-old Bayliss was also the head coach of the England team that won the 2019 World Cup and also coached New South Wales from 2004 to 2007. Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Brian Lara as the new head coach of the team for the upcoming season. Lara had served as the batting coach and strategy consultant of the franchise last season.
