Veteran players like Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Shane Warne, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid have been a part of IPL. Looking at the IPL so far, many legendary players of the world have been associated with one or the other team.

Some of above mentioned cricketers did not perform well in their last IPL match, but there were some players who gave tremendous performance in their last match of their IPL career.

Today in this article, we take a look at 3 legendary cricketers who took a wicket in their IPL career’s last ball.

Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He played for only one franchise, Mumbai Indians in his entire IPL career. Lasith Malinga played his last IPL match in the 2019 IPL final. In that match, he walked out as champion and also took a wicket on the last ball of the match.

He withdrew his name from IPL in 2020 due to personal reasons. At the same time, he retired from franchise cricket before the 2021 season. In this way the final of IPL 2019 proved to be the last match of his IPL career.

Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist was a specialist wicket-keeper batsman and it was very different to see him on the field not wearing the wicketkeeper gloves. Till his last match, Gilchrist had not bowled a single ball in the IPL. Although playing his last match against Mumbai Indians in 2013, Adam Gilchrist also tried his hand with the ball.

Mumbai Indians needed 51 runs in the last 6 balls and they had only one wicket left. Captain Gilchrist decided to bowl himself while Praveen Kumar took the keeper’s gloves. During this, Gilchrist also dismissed Harbhajan Singh on the last ball of the over.

Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble is the only Indian player to have taken a wicket on the last ball of his IPL career. He did this feat in the 2010 IPL season against Deccan Chargers Hyderabad. Kumble took 4 wickets for only 16 runs in that match. Kumble ended his IPL career by dismissing Pragyan Ojha on the last ball of his career.
