Watch- England's Barmy Army mocks Virat Kohli after getting out early on Day 1 of fifth Test

India ended Day 1 of the fifth and final Test against England at 338/7. One can say after looking at the score that the day belongs to India totally. However, it was not the case in the first session of the match. The visitors were 98/5 at one point of time. The English bowlers did bowl a tight line at the start. Even the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, couldn’t do much in the first innings.

India lost their top five batters cheaply under the 100-run mark. But after that, an outstanding performance from Rishabh Pant and equally well-supported by Ravindra Jadeja took India out of the misery. Both left-handers added 222 runs for the sixth wicket off 239 balls to put India in the race.

Pant scored an 89-ball hundred and made 146 runs off 111 balls. While Jadeja was unbeaten at the stumps at 83*. However, it was another failure for the former Indian skipper. He could only score 11 runs off 19 balls with two boundaires. But he got out once again chasing a wide ball.

Matty Potts got his wicket as he dragged a ball on to his stumps and got bowled. He looked confused about that ball, whether to play or leave. As a result, he got double-minded and lost his wicket. With his wicket, the Indian fans were heartbroken.

On the other hand, the English fans were overjoyed because it was a big wicket for the home team. England’s Barmy Army also tweeted a video where all the English fans were singing “Cheerio” in order to mock Virat Kohli, who was heading towards the dugout.  Later on, another tweet was shared with “71” alongside a timer emoji.

Earlier in the match, Ben Stokes won the toss and put India to bat first under the seaming conditions. The English pacers did the damage at the start and picked up India’s five wickets early. Matty Potts took two, while the veteran pacer James Anderson picked up three.
