Despite being touted as one to watch out for in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League and India’s finest T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav failed to make an impact for Mumbai Indians in their match against Delhi Capitals. In their third game of the tournament, Suryakumar was dismissed for a golden duck while chasing the target.

Mumbai Indians began their innings well, chasing Delhi Capitals’ target of 173 runs. The openers, Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma, played confidently, scoring at a run rate above 10 in the powerplay. Unfortunately, Ishan was run out in the eighth over, but it did not seem to affect Mumbai’s batting unit as Rohit continued to dominate the game, partnering with youngster Tilak Varma.

After the departure of Varma, Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat and was expected to carry forward the good work done by Rohit Sharma. However, Yadav was dismissed on the very first ball he faced in the 16th over by Mukesh Kumar, adding to his string of disappointing performances in the tournament so far.

During the first innings of the match, Suryakumar was hit on the face while attempting to catch an uppish ball, resulting in an injury. He dropped two catches in the first innings, and when he came out to bat, he registered a score of 0(1), which added to his poor form.

In the previous games, he scored 15 runs off 16 deliveries against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and just one run off two deliveries against Chennai Super Kings. With three low-scores in the tournament so far, Suryakumar Yadav has failed to make an impact at IPL 2023, and his struggles with the bat continue. See how Twitterati reacted.
