The discussion took place during a match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow, where rain had caused a temporary interruption. The topic of Dhoni’s replacement has been the subject of much debate among cricket enthusiasts.

According to Sunil Gavaskar, although Ravindra Jadeja may have struggled to handle the captaincy during the 2022 IPL season, he has since made a strong comeback for Chennai Super Kings. As a result, Gavaskar believes that Jadeja should be given another chance to lead the team when MS Dhoni retires from the game.

Gavaskar’s comments were made during a recent IPL 2023 match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, which was temporarily interrupted by rain. The question of who will succeed Dhoni as captain has been a hot topic of discussion among cricket fans.

In a surprising move, MS Dhoni announced his resignation from the role of captain of Chennai Super Kings on the eve of the IPL 2022 season, and Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as his successor.

Jadeja took charge of the team and led them in eight matches before relinquishing the captaincy and returning it to Dhoni. Unfortunately, the season did not begin well for CSK under Jadeja’s leadership, and he eventually stepped down from the position due to the team’s poor performance.

Following Ravindra Jadeja’s resignation as captain, MS Dhoni took charge of Chennai Super Kings for the last six games of the IPL 2022 season. Despite his leadership, the team was unable to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, Dhoni put an end to speculation regarding his retirement from the IPL and confirmed that he would return to lead the team in IPL 2023.

In a recent interview with Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar suggested that Ruturaj Gaikwad, the opener for Chennai Super Kings, could serve as Ravindra Jadeja’s deputy in the upcoming season.

“I would give Ravindra Jadeja another go. He could have not been at his best last year. Captaincy is not easy, he might have found it tough last time, now he is experienced, and now he has come back. I would give Ravi Jadeja another go at captaincy,” said the former India captain.
