“We’re feeling incredibly safe in Pakistan” – Steve Smith speaks on the panic after Agar online threat

Australia will pace Pakistan in a multi-format series starting on March 4. And the Australian test side has already reached Pakistan on Sunday and is in quarantine. However, there was a panic when it was learned that someone through social media had given an online threat to spinner Ashton Agar. But after the investigation by both national security agencies, it wasn’t found appropriate and was discontinued later. In an interaction with the media on Tuesday, former Australian skipper Steve Smith also came up with his views on Tuesday.

The ace batsman said that the team is feeling “incredibly safe” in Pakistan and there is no panic. This tour is considered the most historic in the history of both nations. Australia is visiting Pakistan for the first time in a long 24 years.

Both teams will lock horns on March 4 for the first test match at Rawalpindi Stadium. However, Cricket Australia has also stated that they were prepared for such a social media threat, so there is no risk at all. The right-hander also said that no one could control social media, but they were aware that such unfortunate events could occur. Smith also showed the team’s trust in the security arrangements and said they feel safe in Pakistan.

After the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka team, no international teams were touring Pakistan for any kind of cricket. However, the success of the PSL over the years, as well as recent tours by Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Bangladesh, shows that it is fairly safe to play in Pakistan. Smith further added that the team is excited about the series and it is great to be back. The last time Australia played here was in 1998. Smith also pointed out that it is the first time many of the players playing in Pakistan.

The 32-year-old got injured during a match against Sri Lanka in the last series in Sydney. He also said that he is recovering well and is feeling good. The former skipper also spoke about his preparations to face spinners and pacers. He said, “I’ve got my heart rate up to a good amount and brought it down.  All part of the protocols of getting back to playing.”
