Former Pakistan Pacer Mohammad Amir to come out of retirement amid likely changes inside PCB – Reports

Pakistan is facing many political issues at the moment. The government of Imran Khan has been shaken up and it has led to the resignation of Imran as Prime Minister of Pakistan. However, it is not just the government that will change; it will lead to changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board as well. The authorities under the Prime Minister run the operation of the PCB. And as seen in the past, a new PM always brings new people to the Pakistan Board.

Hence, it might also result in the sacking of current PCB chairman Ramiz Raza. And if it happens, we will see new boss in Pakistan cricket. As per some media reports amid the fall of Imran’s government, Ramiz himself was about to tender his resignation from the post of chairman. With that, a few reports have also confirmed that former Pakistani speedster, Mohammad Amir, might also come out of retirement to play the international cricket again.

Amir retired from Test cricket in 2019 to play more and focus on the white-ball format. But due to his clashes with then head coach Misbah Ul Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis have made him to take the retirement from all forms of the cricket in December 2020. The pacer himself disclosed that his disagreements with the management were the reason for his retirement.

Amir has represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 50 T20Is. He has also taken 119 Tests, 81 ODIs and 59 T20I wickets in his career. He also accused the management of torturing him mentally. While retiring, he revealed that he was facing mental torture and couldn’t bear it anymore. The pacer also said, “I’ve borne lots of torture from 2010 to 2015, for which I served my time. I’ve been tortured by being told the PCB invested a lot in me.”

However, he also thanked former PCB chairman, Najam Sethi, and former Shahid Afridi, for their roles in his career. But even after the resignation of Misbah and Younis, he didn’t confirm anything because of Ramiz’s no-tolerance policy. Notably, the stepping down of Ramiz Raza will give the pacer a chance to come back to international cricket. That’s what Mohammed Amir has also confirmed in the past.
