“In my view, he should be playing for India”- Gary Kirsten names player who can solve India’s batting woes

Former Indian cricket team head coach Gary Kirsten has picked a player who should play for the Indian cricket team right now. Many fans would remember that Kirsten was the head coach of the Indian cricket team that lifted the 2011 Cricket World Cup by defeating the Sri Lankan cricket team in the grand finale.

Kirsten soon left the position of the head coach. After that, he worked as a coach for the South African cricket team and also the Indian Premier League franchise titled Royal Challengers Bangalore. Now, in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Kirsten will work as the batting coach of the new Ahmedabad franchise. He will also be the mentor of the team.

Recently, Ahmedabad announced their three draft picks ahead of the mega auction. They have picked Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya as the captain. Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is the first overseas player of the franchise, whereas the third player is opening batter Shubman Gill. Pandya and Khan will earn INR 15 crore each, whereas Gill has received a contract worth INR 8 crore.

Shubman Gill plays with great flair and instinct for the game: Gary Kirsten

Talking to Star Sports, Ahmedabad IPL team mentor Gary Kirsten heaped praise on Shubman Gill’s talent. He felt that Gill should play for India. The Indian cricket team did not perform well in the batting department during the ICC World Test Championship series against the South African cricket team. They also lost the ODI series by 3-0. Here’s what Kirsten had to say:

“Gill is a fantastic player who, at the end of the day, in my view, should be playing for India. He’s on the verge of that and plays with great flair and instinct for the game. He can be a match-winner on his own.”
