Paranjpe, who made his debut for Mumbai under the leadership of Shastri, recalled an interesting incident that happened with him. In a match between Mumbai and Harayana, the former Indian head coach took a sturdy stand for his one player.
During an interaction on Rediff.com, Paranjpe said that during a match against Haryana, their coach, Sarkar Talwar, asked one Mumbai player, Mhambrey, to leave. Shastri, who was the captain of the Mumbai came running and said, “‘If you have to talk to my player, you have to talk to me first.”
He further praised the former Indian head coach and said that he was a born leader. Furthermore, he added that Mumbai won a couple of matches in that season because Ravi totally out-thought the opposition team. The former BCCI selector concluded, “He was an outgoing character. He would love to sit at a bar and talk cricket for hours and hours… so very few like him around.”
