"I Could Never Captain Like MS"- RCB Captain Faf du Plessis reveals his learning playing with CSK under MS Dhoni; highlights why MSD is so successful

MS Dhoni is without a doubt one of the greatest captains that India has ever produced. He has led Team India to three ICC titles and is the only captain to win the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy during his stint.

Not just at international level, Dhoni is also the GOAT in the Indian Premier League. He has led Chennai Super Kings to four IPL titles, and under him, CSK has played 11 playoffs out of the 13 seasons they have played so far.

However, at the age of 41, MSD has probably reached the final phase of his cricketing career, as he said. Although it is not officially clear whether he will play the next season or not. Many former cricketers, current players, and fans are paying tribute to one of the greatest captains of all time.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis also lauded his former captain in a recent interaction. Du Plessis made his IPL debut in 2011 for CSK and played until the 2021 season. He was part of three IPL wins with the franchise and has spent a lot of time with MS Dhoni.

In his latest interview with NDTV, the RCB skipper said, “I was just observing MS from a distance. I was stealing from my eyes, my years about why he is so successful, what makes him so successful. Even at that stage, one of the most successful international and domestic captains in the world of cricket. It was a privilege to learn from someone like that. But I think also something that I picked up really early on was the importance of being the leader that you are. I could never captain like MS.”

Du Plessis also said that the biggest learning he had with MS Dhoni was to keep cool during a pressure situation. He also concluded, “There’s no greater guy to learn about being cool than MS Dhoni.”
