Devon Conway, the opening batsman for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), took the opportunity to clarify a mistake he made after his team emerged victorious in the IPL 2023. The IPL final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans took place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, concluding in an exhilarating last-ball five-wicket victory for CSK through the DLS method.

Throughout the season, Conway proved to be an integral part of the CSK team, exhibiting exceptional form. He accumulated an impressive total of 672 runs in 16 matches, boasting a strike rate of 139.71. The left-handed batsman notched up six half-centuries and hit a remarkable count of 77 fours and 18 sixes. His outstanding performance in the tournament positioned him as the third-highest run-scorer overall.

In a post-match interview with the broadcasters, Devon Conway expressed his opinion that the IPL 2023 title win with Chennai Super Kings was the “greatest win” of his career. He acknowledged the significance of the IPL final and credited Mike Hussey, a former left-handed player, for his role in the victory.

However, Conway’s statement received criticism from New Zealand cricket fans, who believed that he was prioritizing the IPL over the team’s triumph in the ICC World Test Championship in 2021, where they defeated India in the final.

In response to the backlash, Conway retracted his previous comment, clarifying that the IPL 2023 win was the “best T20 victory” of his career, but not the overall best. He emphasized that winning the Test championship for New Zealand was an incredibly special moment.

“I think it’s the best T20 victory of my career, I wouldn’t say it’s overall my best. But certainly the best T20 victory or achievement in my career. I think the Test championship final, winning that for New Zealand was certainly very, very special,” clarified Conway.

Conway expressed his appreciation for the experience of playing for Chennai Super Kings and commended the team management for their support and faith in him throughout the campaign, which allowed him to perform at his best.
