Babar Azam’s captaincy under big question as Karachi Kings loses 8 straight PSL 2022 matches

Pakistan cricket team‘s star batsman Babar Azam may have had a great stint while captaining his country at the international level. But his captaincy in the Pakistan Super League is constantly being questioned.

Pakistan cricket team’s captain and star batsman Babar Azam is currently taking part in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2022 edition, captaining the Karachi Kings franchise.

In this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL 2022), Babar Azam’s team has not been able to register a win in the total 8 matches that the team has played his season. His team Karachi Kings is already out of the race for the title but the team has even failed to register a moorale boosting win either and with just 2 matches left, it’s not known how they will finish the season.

Babar Azam’s performance in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) has also not been anything special or impressive. He has been able to score only two half-centuries in 8 innings.

However, he converted one of those two fifties, into an unbeaten 90 against Peshawar Zalmi sidd. They were defeated by Multan Sultans by 7 wickets on Wednesday, their 8th consecutive loss of the tournament.

And now after that, they have only 2 matches left to play against the Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators on Friday and Sunday respectively. Even though the team has out of the race for the next stage, the team will try their level to finish off the season well.

On the other hand, with the win against Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans are now assured of a top 2 finish in the points table with 14 points from their 8 matches. Batting first, Karachi Kings scored a challenging 174 for 6 wickets, thanks to the innings of Joe Clarke (40), opener Sharjeel Khan (36) and Imad Wasim (32 not out).

In response, the Multan based team won the match, scoring 176 runs for three wickets with three balls to spare, thanks to a half-century from opener and captain Mohammad Rizwan (76) and his first wicket partnership of 100 runs with Shan Masood (45).

Karachi had a chance to break their seven-match losing streak when Multan needed 29 runs in the last two overs. However, Khushdil Shah (21 not out in 9 balls) gave his team victory by hitting 2 sixes and a four in the over of England fast bowler Chris Jordan.
