Asia’s biggest cricket tournament Asia Cup 2022 is here and is set to take place from today onwards, i.e. from the 27th of August with the hosts Sri Lanka taking on the Afghanistan cricket team in the opening match.

Asia Cup is the continent’s most prestigious competition and is set to be competed between the best 6 teams that have qualified for the tournament.

5 ICC Full Members, the likes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan got a direct entry into the competition, while Hong Kong had to play a qualifying competition to play in the tournament. Today in this article, we take a look at all 6 team’s captains for the Asia Cup 2022.

Team India

The Indian cricket team is the most successful team in the history of the competition. They are to be led by Rohit Sharma as the captain of the team for the tournament. Rohit Sharma took over as the Indian team’s captain after now a former captain Virat Kohli decided to step down from that position.

Team Pakistan

Pakistan cricket team is being considered the one of the favourites to win the Asia Cup 2022 to be played in UAE. The Men in Green will be led by their star batsman Babar Azam who has been the captain of the team for some time now. He will be looking to add Pakistan’s 3rd Asia Cup trophy.

Team Sri Lanka

After the Indian team, Sri Lanka is the 2nd most successful team in the history of the competition, having won the Asia Cup a total of 5 times. The Lankan Lions are the hosts of the competition but had to shift the tournament to UAE due to financial crisis in Sri Lanka. They will be led by the 30-years-old all-rounder Dasun Shanaka.

Team Bangladesh

Bangladesh have finished runners-up thrice in the history of the competition. However, this year too, it won’t be an easy task for the Bangla Tigers. The suffered shameful series defeat against Zimbabwe in both the ODIs and T20Is. After that, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named experienced campaigner Shakib Al Hasan as the captain.

Team Afghanistan

Afghanistan cricket team saw a huge growth over the last couple of years and is among some of the best Asia teams. This will be their 3rd appearance in the competition and will be led by experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

Team Hong Kong

Hong Kong became the 6th and the final team to qualify for the competition. They had to win the qualifiers that were held between August 20 and 24. They have slotted into the Group A with the likes of India and Pakistan, thus their chances of qualifying to Super 4 almost is zero. They will be led by their captain Nizakat Khan.
