The match of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) edition is now on the pages of the history book as Mumbai Indians dismantled Gujarat Giants in the opening clash in Mumbai.
Following the routes of success of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Women’s Premier League (WPL) got underway with a massive win for Mumbai Indians.
Batting first in Mumbai, Mumbai Indians posted 207 runs on the board thanks to captain Harmanpreet Kaur who scored 65 runs in 30 balls and got contributions from Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr, who both scored 47 and 45 runs respectively.
Chasing the target, Gujarat Giants barely avoided the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s set lowest total in IPL of 49 runs as they were all out for 64 runs. Other than Dayalan Hemalatha, who scored 29 runs, everyone else failed to contribute for Gujarat.
For Mumbai, Saika Ishaque took 4 wickets while Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr both picked 2 wickets each as Mumbai Indians won the match by 143 runs. Meanwhile, the first of the IPL was also won by a big margin as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the opening IPL match by 140 runs. Checkout how Twitterati reacted to the same.
