Everyone knows about the friendship of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) and star Indian batsman Virat Kohli. Kohli has even called Dhoni his elder brother on many occasions. Today, on the 7th of July, Dhoni is celebrating his 41st birthday and during this time Kohli has written a cute social media post for his elder brother Dhoni.
MS Dhoni is probably one of those great things ever to happen to Indian cricket. The legend, though initially was a goalkeeper for his school and was asked to be a part of the school cricket team by the team’s coach, it was probably the best decision for Dhoni, for not only himself, but also for the whole country.
Had he not joined the school cricket team, India would have missed out on a jewel. Dhoni has achieved numerous achievements throughout his career, especially winning all three ICC Trophies as India captain.
Along with that, he has made some great friends throughout his career and Virat Kohli is one of them. Infact, Dhoni was the captain of the Indian team when Kohli made his international debut in 2008.
Kohli has played many matches under Dhoni’s captaincy. When Dhoni abruptly left the captaincy of the Test team, by that time he had prepared Kohli to step in for him. Kohli has also admitted that Dhoni has helped him a lot under his captaincy.
Even after getting the captaincy of limited overs, it was seen on many occasions that during the match, Kohli constantly took tips from Dhoni on the field. And today, on the Indian legend’s special day, Kohli had a special message for his captain.
Kohli today took to his official Twitter handle and posted, “A leader like no other. Thanks for everything you have done for Indian cricket. You became more like an elder brother for me. Nothing but love and respect always.” He signed off wishing Dhoni a happy birthday and called him skip, means skipper as he still admires him as his captain.
Dhoni’s international career as a captain was quite spectacular. Under his captaincy, India has won all three ICC titles and became the first captain in the world to do so. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India first won the first edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. After this, in 2011, India ended the 28-year drought by winning the Cricket World Cup title. In 2013, India also captured the Champions Trophy.
However, since the ICC titles won under Dhoni’s captaincy, India has not won any ICC tournament so far.
