According to Mohammad Rizwan, both Indian and Pakistani players desire to play together. However, due to recent political tensions between the two countries, this has not been possible. Since 2014, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series.
During Pakistan’s journey to India, the arch-rivals played two T20Is and three ODIs. However, the two countries have repeatedly battled in ICC competitions. Their last meeting was in the T20 World Cup, which was contested in the United Arab Emirates and Oman last year.
The last time India visited Pakistan for a cricket match was in the 2005–06 season. However, given the ongoing tensions between the two countries, any visit by either side at this time is unlikely. Rizwan, on the other hand, says that while both sides’ players are eager about playing against one another, the situation between the two countries is beyond their control.
“The cricketers from Pakistan and India want to play each other, but country events are beyond the players control,” the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter told the media before the West Indies’ visit to Pakistan.
Mohammad Rizwan was recently spotted playing in the County Championship alongside Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. In Sussex’s match against Durham, the pair put on a stunning 154-run stand for the 6th wicket.
After being dropped from the Indian Test team, Pujara was a surprise in county cricket, scoring two centuries and two double centuries in red ball cricket. Rizwan expressed his respect for the Indian batter and congratulated him.
I had a lot of chats with Pujara about cricket and learned a lot from him. As players, we are all the same and we are one cricketing family. Pujara is a wonderful person. I aspire to be like him in terms of concentration and focus. In this regard, I believe Younis Khan, Fawad Alam, and Che Pujara are three guys I hold in high regard, Rizwan continued.
