Rohit Sharma

After Indian team’s batting star Virat Kohli decided to step-down from his position as the Indian team’s T20I captain post T20 World Cup 2021, Rohit Sharma was named the new Indian team captain. And so far, Rohit has led India greatly with a new style of play in place.

Team India had to face a shocking exit from the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. Then captain Virat Kohli had already announced going into the tournament that he would be stepping down as India’s T20I captain after the World Cup.

Rohit Sharma, who was the vice-captain of the team, was then promoted to become the new T20I captain while Rahul Dravid joined as the new head coach. Together, the duo have implemented a agressive style of play and made some big decision.

As part of such decision, there are some players who have now vanished from the Indian T20I setup. Today in this article, we take a look at 3 players who have faded away from the Indian team after Rohit Sharma became captain.

Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar was mainly a backup for Yuzvendra Chahal in the Indian team and was touted as a future replacement for the experienced spin bowler. However, after Rohit Sharma became Team India’s captain, Ravi Bishnoi has come into the fold and has impressed everyone with his performance and has overtaken Rahul in pecking-order.

Mohammed Shami

While experienced pace Mohammed Shami is a vital part of the Indian ODI and Test setup, he has somewhat lost his position in the team. He had a very good campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 but is yet to feature for the Indian team in T20Is under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and may not feature again.

Varun Chakaravarthy

Varun Chakaravarthy was selected into the Indian team’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 after his impressing performance in the IPL 2021 that was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), same venue for the T20 World Cup 2021. However, in 3 matches, he failed to pickup any wicket and never featured for India after Rohit Sharma became the Indian team captain.
