3 Indian players who might retire post the 2023 Cricket World Cup

World Cup 2023

World Cup is set to return as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is just a couple of weeks away. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be hosted and played in India and thus it is a great opportunity for the Indian team to finally win their 3rd 50 overs Cricket World Cup.

Talking about India and World Cup, the Men in Blue have won a total of 3 World Cup that includes 2 50 overs World Cup and 1 T20 World Cup. The 50 overs World Cup India won in the year 1983 and the 2011 while India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

The last time when India won the 50 over World Cup, or rather I say any World Cup was the 2011 Cricket World Cup that was played in India. And with the 2023 World Cup also to be played in India, this seems to be a great opportunity to Team India to finally grab hand on the Trophy.

However, the 2023 Cricket World Cup might also see a couple of Indian players retiring from the format. Today in this article, we take a look at 3 Indian players who might retire after the 2023 World Cup. Note that the list also includes players who doesn’t play for India now but have not announced their retirement yet.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has made a strong comeback and most unthinkable of a comeback to the Indian team, albeit it’s in the T20I setup. Karthik had been a part of the Indian ODI setup for quite some time now but has not been a regular with MS Dhoni in the team. Now even though he has made a strong comeback to the T20I setup, he seems way off of making a return to ODI setup. As such, he might wanna focus a lot in his T20I career and retire from not just the One Day cricket but also Test cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin

The next player who might also bid a goodbye to the One Day format is veteran off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin who is now unlikely to make a return to the ODI team. Even though Ashwin has made a return to the T20I team after a year, it’s unlikely he is gonna play in the ODI format after 2023 Cricket World Cup. Ashwin has been crucial for India in not only Indian conditions but also in overseas conditions.

Umesh Yadav

Indian pace bowler Umesh Yadav is another Indian player who may announce his retirement after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Umesh though doesn’t play for India in the limited overs cricket anymore but use to be valuable member of the Test side. However, it seems now that Umesh might find it difficult to find a place in the Test team as well. And with his limited overs career almost over and a return unlikely, Umesh might decide to hang-up his boots soon.
