World Test Championship 2021-2023 Points Table Updated: Australia vs South Africa 3rd Test 2023

The final match of the three-Test series between Australia and South Africa in Sydney ended in a draw. South Africa scored 106/2 in their second innings while following on. Earlier, South Africa’s first innings was reduced to 255 runs and Australia decided followed on. The Australian team captured the series 2–0 after winning the first 2 matches.

Resuming from yesterday’s score of 149/6, the Proteas first lost the wicket of Marco Jansen, who was dismissed for total of 167 after scoring 11 runs. From here on, Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj batted steady and shared a half-century partnership for the eighth wicket. By lunch, South Africa had scored 244/7. Harmer was unbeaten on 45 and Maharaj on 49.

Maharaj completed his half-century in the second session. He was dismissed after scoring 53 runs. Harmer also went on to score 47 runs. Nathan Lyon ended South Africa’s innings at 255 after Kagiso Rabada was dismissed for a personal score of 3 runs. Josh Hazlewood took four and Pat Cummins took three wickets. Australia got a lead of 220 runs and asked South Africa to follow on.

Coming out to play their second innings, South Africa lost the wicket of captain Dean Elgar. Sarel Erwi and Heinrich Klaasen steadied the innings and at tea South Africa were 45/1 in 15 overs. After tea, the two completed a half-century partnership. Klaasen was dismissed after scoring 35 runs. From here on Erwi and Temba Bavuma didn’t let any setback and the match ended in a draw.

With this win, Australia continue to dominate at the top of the World Test Championship 2021-2023 points table with 75.56 percentage. India is now in 2nd place currently with Sri Lanka right behind. South Africa have meanwhile slipped to 4th place in the points table.
