During a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was observed applying saliva to the ball. It is important to note that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned the use of saliva to shine the ball in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the ICC’s ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball due to the COVID-19 pandemic, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra was caught on camera applying saliva during the 12th over of the first innings of the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

This surprising incident has attracted attention, particularly because players are permitted to use sweat as a substitute for saliva.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Mishra dismissed Virat Kohli in the third ball of the same over, after applying saliva to the ball. However, this is not the first instance of the leg-spinner being involved in such an incident.

During the 2021 edition of the IPL, he was cautioned by the on-field umpire Virender Sharma for a similar offense and was informed that his team could face a five-run penalty if it occurred again.

During the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got off to a flying start in the first innings, thanks to skipper Faf du Plessis and flamboyant batter Virat Kohli. Kohli played a brilliant innings, hitting four sixes and as many boundaries on his way to scoring 61 runs, while Faf scored 79 runs off just 46 balls.

Glenn Maxwell, who came up the order, smashed a quick-fire 59 off 29 balls, hitting six maximums and three boundaries. Despite setting a challenging target of 212 runs, LSG’s Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis led the team’s response, scoring 62 and 65 runs, respectively, to revive their chase after some early wickets.

LSG gained momentum and luck in their favour, eventually winning the thrilling match following a last-ball error by Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel, much to the delight of their fans.
