Despite the ICC’s ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball due to the COVID-19 pandemic, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra was caught on camera applying saliva during the 12th over of the first innings of the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

This surprising incident has attracted attention, particularly because players are permitted to use sweat as a substitute for saliva.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Mishra dismissed Virat Kohli in the third ball of the same over, after applying saliva to the ball. However, this is not the first instance of the leg-spinner being involved in such an incident.

During the 2021 edition of the IPL, he was cautioned by the on-field umpire Virender Sharma for a similar offense and was informed that his team could face a five-run penalty if it occurred again.
