Team India suffered a 7 wickets defeat in the 1st match of the 3 match series as Tom Latham and captain Kane Williamson led the charge for New Zealand.
Having to bat, Team India put on a total of 306 runs on the board. Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave India a good start as both scored fifty themselves. But once wickets started falling, India went on to close 4 wickets in close quarters until Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson rebuild the inning.
While Samson was dismissed after scoring 36 runs while trying to accelerate the inning, Iyer took Indian team deeper and took them to a good position as he scored 80 runs. Washington Sundar played a cameo of 36 runs to help India to a better position.
After India loss, Shreyas Iyer told the press that he and Sanju Samson have always had some great partnership. Meanwhile reacting to that, some people believe that this is Iyer’s indirect way to tell the team management to play Samson over Pant, who has been underperforming recently.
