The first match of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 edition is now done and dusted and is under the history books now after Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Giants by 143 runs.
The first match of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) was played between the hosts Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants on 4th March at the DY Patil Stadium.
Batting first in the match, Mumbai Indians scored 207 runs in their 20 overs with big innings coming from captain Harmanpreet Kaur who scored 65 runs in 30 balls. Other than her, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr also contributed with 47 and 45 runs respectively.
With the ball, it was Saika Ishaque who took 4 wickets to bundle out Gujarat Giants for just 64. As such, Mumbai Indians record a big win in the opening match of the competition itself.
