Indian opening batsman KL Rahul’s performance has created ripple among the former Indian cricketers, many whom are backing Rahul while many also wants the underperformed player to be dropped from the team and play domestic and make his way back in the team with performance.
KL Rahul has been seriously targetted by the fans and former cricketers over his failure to big runs on a consistent basis.
Rahul’s outing in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 Test series vs Australia has been not upto the standard. In 3 innings, the batter has scored 38 runs only with 2 matches still to be played.
Rahul’s performance has not upto the mark for the quality of the player after his return from injury. Rahul has not only failed to score runs in the Test format, but has also failed to deliver in the ODI and T20I format as well.
Meanwhile, his performance has created division between the fans and former cricketers. A group want Rahul to be dropped and let him play domestic and make his way back into the team with performance, while there is a group that wants KL Rahul to be backed.
Recently, KL Rahul’s IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants’ team mentor Gautam Gambhir also spoke about him and said that Rahul needs to be backed. However, the fans didn’t agree. Many said that Gambhir was dropped from Test team despite playing 58 matches and had better than what KL Rahul has done so far. Checkout how Twitterati reacted to the same.
Gambhir (in Sports Tak) said “People who are talking about KL Rahul don’t know how tough International cricket, I believe when a player is not performing he needs more backing, name one player who has scored runs every time, everyone has faced issues & we should back talents”.

Gautam Gambhir retired with 58 tests but his chela KL is still a fresher despite playing 47 tests. Its Gauti responsibility now to work on KL’s batting during IPL-2023. I think he is a good mentor.
