The defending champions of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), Chepauk Super Gillies has finally opened their account in this year’s edition of the tournament after a successful failures in the opening two matches.
The Kaushik Gandhi led Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) defeated the Ruby Trichy Warriors in the final match of the TNPL 2021 to win the crown last year. However, the start to the latest edition was not so special for the defending champions, losing their opening 2 matches against Nellai Royal Kings in the super over, and then to Madurai Panthers.
However, coincidentally, Chepauk registered their first win of the season against the team they defeated in the final match of the last year’s edition, the Ruby Trichy Warriors on Wednesday night.
Batting first, Chepauk posted a huge total of 203 runs on the board. Radhakrishnan scored 81 runs while Sasidev scored 65 runs. While chasing the target, the Trichy Warriors could only score 159 runs in their 20 overs, giving CSG a 44 runs win.
On the other hand, the opening match of the day was played between Lyca Kovai Kings and Salem Spartans, which the former won. Chasing the target of 147 runs, Kovai Kings managed 149 runs in their 16.3 overs. Suresh Kumar and Sai Sudarshan both scored fifty plus runs.
After yesterday’s both the matches, the updated TNPL 2022 points table sees still the Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) leading the points table with 4 wins in 4 matches and 8 points to their name. Dindigul Dragons are behind them in 2nd place with 4 points from 4 matches. Madurai Panthers have the same number of points, but 3 matches.
As for Chepauk Super Gillies, their win helps them to propel to 4th place in the points table. Salem Spartans continue to remain at the bottom of the points table having lost both their opening matches. However, they have game in hand over the others.
