Sunil Gavaskar, a renowned cricket player, suggests that Rohit Sharma, the captain of both the Indian cricket team and the Mumbai Indians, who has been struggling to perform well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, should take some time off from the league and focus on preparing for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
Gavaskar believes that Sharma’s performance in the T20 league has been consistently poor, which might have affected his confidence, and thus he needs to take a break and prepare for the crucial WTC final.
Rohit Sharma’s poor performance with the bat continued as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets at Chepauk on Saturday, breaking their 13-year-long home ground victory drought against MI.
Rohit, who has been struggling to score runs in the IPL since the last edition, failed to score for the second consecutive match, leading to MI posting a below-par total of 139 for 8 against CSK.
It was an overall disappointing game for MI, and Rohit’s form was the biggest concern for them as he got out within the powerplay for the eighth time in this season.
During an interview on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar suggested that Rohit Sharma should consider taking a break from the IPL and focus on getting himself ready for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final.
“I would say that Rohit should maybe take a break for the time being, and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship final,” said the former Indian batsman.
Gavaskar recommended that Rohit should prioritize his fitness for the final, take a breather, and potentially return to the IPL later on. The WTC final is set to take place from June 7-11 at the Oval in London.
