There has been rumours on social media that the former Australian cricket team captain Steve Smith might be returning to the IPL as a replacement for the injured Kane Williamson in Gujarat Titans for IPL 2023.
The New Zealand cricket team and Gujarat Titans’ batsman Kane Williamson suffered a major injury in the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while trying to save a Six.
The Kiwi batter could not take further part in the match and was replaced by Sai Sudarshan as a Impact Player during Gujarat Titans batting.
From early on today, rumours are circulating that Kane Williamson won’t be able to take further part in the match and would eventually be replaced. Former Australian captain Steve Smith’s name was touted as a best option.
However, the Aussie himself, who is working as a commentator in the IPL, confirmed that he won’t be joining any franchise as any players’ replacement as he did register his name for the IPL Auction.
Steven Smith said, "I didn't register for the auction, so I'm not eligible to be anyone's replacement in IPL 2023".
