During the match, Gill, aged 23, had scored 18 runs off 19 balls, including two boundaries. He was facing Scott Boland when an outside edge flew towards the slip. Cameron Green made a remarkable full-stretch dive and appeared to have taken a stunning one-handed catch.

However, upon review by the third umpire, it became evident that Green had failed to complete the catch and had dragged the ball on the ground.

Following the day’s play, Gill shared a post on social media, featuring an image of the controversial catch. The caption of the post included two magnifying glass emojis and one face palm emoji. Additionally, Gill posted an Instagram story with clapping emojis.

Following the dismissal, India showed resilience and ended Day 4 at a score of 164-3, with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane displaying promising form. Regarding the controversial catch, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey expressed his opinion, stating that he believed the decision was fair.

Carey commented, “We have a good total on the scoreboard, and we are always aiming to take more wickets, but Rahane and Kohli played well. We will have another opportunity tomorrow. From my perspective, the catch looked legitimate, and we were satisfied with the outcome. The right decision was made.”
