Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has picked India as the favorites to win the Asia Cup 2022, starting Saturday, August 27. He said that India have a strong team and they can adapt themselves to any situation. India’s Asia Cup campaign begins on Sunday with their first match against arch-rival Pakistan in Dubai.
Watson feels that the match between India and Pakistan is going to be a special one. He believes that Pakistan will have the belief that they can beat the Indian team. He also said that whoever wins this match will go on to win the tournament. The last time the two teams met was in the 2021 T20 World Cup, which Pakistan won by a massive 10 wickets.
Shane Watson in the ICC Review Show said, “My predicted winner is India. They are very strong and depending on the circumstances, they easily adapt to the circumstances. Watching the first match is going to be very special as Pakistan is now confident that they can beat this Indian team.”
Regarding the India-Pakistan match, he said, he thinks that whoever wins that match, will go on to win the Asia Cup 2022 edition as well. But he also added that he feels that India is going to win the tournament. The Aussie continued that there are so many power hitters in the Indian team’s batting order that it will be very difficult to stop them.
India is in Group A along with Hong Kong and Pakistan. While Group B consists of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. This will be the 15th edition of the Asia Cup, and only the second time in the history of the tournament after 2016 that it will be played in the T20 format.
