Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has made a big statement regarding fast bowling duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. He has said that the two fast bowlers will not always be with the team and that is why it is very important to prepare the rest of the players. According to Rohit Sharma, the main goal of this team management is to create a good bench strength.
Before the T20 World Cup 2022, the Indian team has given opportunities to many young players. Players like Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishvoi are being tried out. Many youngsters have also been given a chance on the ongoing Zimbabwe tour.
In a conversation with The Indian Express, Rohit Sharma said that it is very important to prepare the backup of Shami and Bumrah. He said that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami and all these players will not always be with the team so one have to prepare other players as well.
“Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami and all these guys will not be with the Indian team forever, so you have to try and prepare the other guys. I and Rahul bhai spoke about how we are going to create our bench strength because that’s going to be very crucial considering the amount of cricket we play,” Rohit said.
He added that he and coach Rahul Dravid have talked about how to build bench strength.
Rohit Sharma further said that they do not want a team that depends only on one or two players and that they want a team where everyone can contribute and lead the team to victory on their own, which is why, many youngsters are getting opportunities to play for India. This is the reason why so many opportunities are being given to the young players.
The India captain also talked two debutants Rahul Tripathi and Shahbaz Ahmed and said that this a great opportunity for the two to get good exposure against a team like Zimbabwe.
